General cargo ship Nikiti II hits pier in Turkey

General cargo ship Nikiti II struck a pier at Iskenderun port, Turkey, on August 10. En route from Greece Nikiti II proceeded to the quay at a higher than usual speed and collided with the stone wall. The ship suffered slight damage but remained seaworthy and stable without water ingress. The vessel was later berthed successfully and started cargo handling operations. The local authorities detained general cargo ship Nikiti II for special survey and inspection before allowing it to return to operations. There were no injuries and no water pollution, although the pier at Iskenderun port was slightly damaged.
