Somalians charged with piracy

The Seychelles authorities have charged six Somalians with piracy after attacks on containership MV Ever Dynamic (IMO 9142198) and a fishing vessel in the Indian Ocean last month. The six were apprehended by the crew of an Italian warship following separate attacks over a 24-hour period on November 17th and 18th in the Southern Somali Basin in the Indian Ocean.

The six suspects are alleged to have crewed a motor whaler that was being used as a mothership to launch the attacks using a skiff. The suspects were alleged to have fired several rocket-propelled grenades towards Ever Dynamic, which was en route from Colombo to Mombasa, but the attack failed due to defence by ship’s armed security team and other counter-piracy measures taken by the crew.

The six were apprehended by the Italian Marines from ITS Virginio Fasan after their vessels were spotted by a Spanish military helicopter.

1998-built, Panama-flagged, 52,090 gt Ever Dynamic is owned by Greencompass Marine SA care of manager Evergreen Marine Corp of Taoyuan City, Taiwan. It is entered with Assuranceforeningen Gard – gjensidig – on behalf of Greencompass Marine SA.
