Seafarer dies after missile strikes Bangladeshi bulker in Ukraine

A Bangladeshi third engineer, Hadisur Rahman, has been killed after a missile struck Bangladesh Shipping Corporation’s bulk carrier Banglar Samriddhi (IMO 9793832) in the Dnieper Estuary near the small port of Oktyabrsk,(Olviia) in Ukrainian waters. The ship had been stranded there since Russia invaded Ukraine last week.

The rest of the crew survived and were able to extinguish a fire that broke out on the ship. The ship looked as if it was caught in crossfire between Russian and Ukrainian troops over the Southern Buh river.

Latest AIS has the vessel in the Dnieper-Bug Estuary.

2018-built, Bangladesh-flagged, 25,818 gt Banglar Samriddhi is owned and managed by Bangladesh Shipping Corp of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is entered with Skuld (Business unit Skuld Singapore International) on behalf of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation.
