New sanctions from US lead to Pegas remaining under detention in Greece

Tankship Pegas (IMO 9256860), which had been seized by the Greek authorities on April 20th but which was then ordered to be released because the flag had been changed and the owner was not a sanctioned company, has been “re-detained” after new US sanctions put the owner, Russian shipping company TransMorFlot LLC, under sanctions.

The current beneficial owner of the vessel is Jamaldin Pashaev, the Russian owner of 17 ships based in Astrakhan. The ship has changed names, flags and owners several times. On April 21st it had been reported the vessel was set to be released as the new registered owner was not included in any sanction lists.

The tanker had changed its flag from Russia to Iran and its name from Pegas to Lana. It has 19 Russian crew members on board (IMN May 9th 2022)

TransMorFlot LLC has 16 vessels which are now subject to detention if they arrive in ports of countries cooperating with the EU and US sanctions against Russia
