Cement carrier NACC Argonaut (IMO 9287302), which ran aground during the morning of Sunday September 24th on the St Lawrence River near Cornwall, Ontario, about half way between Montreal and Lake Ontario was refloated at 09:00 local time.
The reason for the grounding was under investigation.
At least two tugs were helping move the ship to Lake St. Francis for further inspections. The Ocean Intrepide was helping to stabilize the ship. The Ocean K. Rusby assisted with the salvage operation.
Traffic recommenced, although temporary bottlenecks were expected until the backlog was cleared. There were 15 ships in the area waiting to get through the system – nine of them upbound and six of them downbound.
