Marine accident round-up : 20th March 2020

Tankship Leon Zeus (IMO 9396385) has been unloading its cargo of 30,000 tons gas oil products onto tanker Amphitrite after being immobilized off Greece for nearly a month. The vessel had encountered mechanical difficulties on February 20th and was towed to a sheltered mooring south of Kalamata. The cargo transfer began on March 16th. After having been fully lightered, the tanker was to be towed to Piraeus for repairs, with an ETA of March 19th.

Salvage operations of tankship Rawan (IMO 8697304) have been postponed due to financial difficulties by its owners and the insurance company. A letter has been issued by the harbour master to the owners and the local agent for commencing refloating operations without further delays. The incident site has been declared as a restricted zone for all types of marine traffic. The vessel remained stationary at the grounding position as of March 17.
