Holland America cuts Acapulco from eight cruise itineraries

Holland America Line has replaced calls at Acapulco, Mexico from eight scheduled 2017/18 cruises “due to recent security concerns”. Guerrero, in which Acapulco is situated, has been the most violent state in Mexico for the past four years, with self-defence groups operating independently of the government in many areas.

The US State Department has warned that “armed members of these groups frequently maintain roadblocks and, although not considered hostile to foreigners or tourists, are suspicious of outsiders and should be considered volatile and unpredictable.” The UK Foreign Office has also warned travellers about visiting the Mexican destination. Other cruises still have Acapulco on their list. All three of Norwegian Cruise Line Holding’s operators are stopping off there in 2017/18.
