Four slicks from sunken Sanchi detected

Chinese maritime authorities have now detected four oil slicks over a total of 101 sq miles, subsequent to the sinking last weekend of tanker Sanchi, which was carrying 1m barrels of condensate. Two more oil-spill vessels have been sent to the scene to accelerate cleaning efforts.

China’s Ministry of Transport said that underwater robots were inspecting the wreck, which is at a depth of 115 metres within the Japanese Economic Zone, some 300m from Shanghai and 190m from Naha, Japan.
