Final three families settle with Tote Maritime

The final three families who had outstanding wrongful death legal actions pending against Tote Maritime, owner of cargo ship El Faro which sank in October 2015, have settled out of court for undisclosed sums. The latest settlements mean that all 33 lawsuits have now been closed. Each of the earlier settlements reached with the families included $500,000 in pre-death pain and suffering damages, plus undisclosed sums for economic and other losses. The sinking of El Faro during Hurricane Joaquin while en route to Puerto Rico cost the lives of 28 Americans and five Polish nationals.
