Bulk carrier collides with fishing vessel off Jakarta, 17 feared dead

Indonesian divers were searching over the weekend for 17 missing fishermen after bulk carrier Habco Pioneer (IMO 9370329) collided with a fishing vessel, the Barokah Jaya.

The bulk carrier was en route from Pacitan, Indonesia when the collision occurred during the afternoon local time on April 3rd, northeast of Jakarta in the Indramayu Regency waters, West Java. The fishing vessel sank and 17 of its 32 crew members were missing. An SAR operation was launched after the bulk carrier reported the accident to the Cirebon Vessel Traffic Centre and then moored.

Both vessels are Indonesia-flagged. There were no reports of casualties or missing crew on the Habco Pioneer.
