Accident round-up : 22nd March 2017

Two people are missing after Spanish fishing vessel El Fairell sank following a collision with Russian product tanker Midvolga-2 about 2 nm southeast of Barcelona, Spain. Following the collision the fishing trawler capsized , ejecting the four crew into the sea. The crew of the tanker crew succeeded in rescuing two of the fishermen, but two remain missing. The tanker resumed its voyage to Alexandria but was ordered to return to Spain pending further investigation of the incident. Currently Midvolga-2 is berthed in Barcelona. She did not suffer any damage from the collision and none of the crew was injured. Midvolga-2 is 6,573dwt and 4,979grt. Russian reefer Anton Gurin collided with a 4.9-ton fishing boat in the East China Sea about 30 nm southeast of Yeosu, Korea, while en route from Busan to Qingdao. Following the incident the freighter was alleged to have left the scene and failed to report the incident. The fishing boat capsized but did not sink. One of the crew was rescued but the other remains missing. Anton Gurin was detained by the South Korean Coast guard and ordered to anchor off Yeosu. The ship did not appear to have suffered serious damage and none of the crew was injured. According to the investigation the second officer was on watch at the time of the incident. He was arrested and a criminal case is pending. The capsized fishing boat was towed to port, where it was dry-docked. Reefer Anton Gurin is 6,626dwt and 6,689grt.
