Netherlands authorities head to Bahamas to investigate cruise ship deaths

Authorities from the Netherlands were sent to the Bahamas to investigate the fatal accident on board the Nieuw Amsterdam (IMO 9378450) on March 22nd, which left two crew members dead (see IMN March 26th).

The ship warranted a response from the Dutch Safety Board (OVV), said that The Dutch Safety Board, noting that it was obliged to investigate the accident on the basis of international laws and regulations.

2010-built, Netherlands-flagged, 86,273 gt Nieuw Amsterdam is owned by Hal Antillen NV care of Holland America Line NV of Seattle, Washington State, USA. It is entered with Steamship Mutual, Gard and UK Club. As of March 27th the vessel was listed as Stopped at George Town, Cayman Islands.
