X-Press Pearl wreck cut in half, aft section raised from the sea floor

The aft section of the wreck of the X-Press Pearl (IMO 9875343) has successfully been raised from the sea floor and is aboard the semi-submersible Fan Zhou 10, reporte News 1st Sri Lanka, citing confirmation from X-Press Feeders, the operator of the container ship. There is no release on the matter on the X-Press Feeders website. IMN reached out to X-Press Feeders on the matter, but had not received a reply at the time of going to press.

The wreck section will now be transported to a certified decommissioning facility for dismantling, recycling, and disposal. The Shanghai Salvage Companies’ onsite team was now focusing on the remaining fore section of the wreck, the report said. Tandem lifting barges ZR122 and ZR123 will raise the last section in the near future, depending on prevailing weather conditions.

The salvage works on the wreck re-commenced after the end of the southwest monsoon season began in late November 2022, according to the report.

According to Equasis, 2021-built, Singapore-flagged, 31,629 gt X-Press Pearl is owned by Eos Ro Pte Ltd of Singapore. It is managed by X-press Feeders of Singapore. ISM manager is Eastaway Ship Management Pte of the same address.
