The removal of container ship X-Press Pearl (IMO 9875343) from off the coast of south-west Sri Lanka has been scheduled to begin early in November. Removal of the wreckage, which has been semi-submerged in 21 metres of water since early June, has been delayed until after the Southwest Monsoon subsides.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Ministry of Urban Development and Housing has said that the final report on the environmental damage caused by the ship accident will be submitted by November 30th. The Marine Environment Protection Authority hopes to engage in a long-term investigation into the environmental damage.
