Windward Take: Navigational Error
This was the Sandettie’s first visit to the port of Scheveningen. Our analysis shows that it sailed outside the defined Port Waiting area at a speed of 7.4Kn. It came to a stop when it ran aground in a no-anchoring area just outside the port. The ship’s reported draft was 4.4m with water depth of around 5m. It was the only vessel to sail this course. Indeed, no other ships sailed through this particular spot. The weather conditions were fine. All this points to some kind of navigational error. It’s also worth noting that the ship’s last reported destination was the Port of Pasajes in Spain.
