Wakashio stern will be moved this month

The stern of scrapped bulk carrier Wakashio (IMO 9337119), which remains grounded on the reefs of Pointe d’Esny, Mauritius, will be transported with a barge to Samlo, Port Louis, for dismantling at the end of January 2021, the Minister of Economy, Fisheries and Marine, Sudhir Maudhoo, said on January 5th.

Two salvage teams, made up of 26 members on two tugs, were reported to have arrived in Mauritius.

2007-built, Panama-flagged, 101,932 gt Wakashio is owned by Okiyo Maritime Corp care of Nagashiki Shipping Co Ltd of Okayama-Ken, Japan.
