US raises travel alert to Japan due to ‘community spread’ of virus

The US State Department has called for “increased caution” when traveling to Japan. On Saturday it increased to level 2 the alert (on a four-level advisory scale) amid reports that Covid-19 was spreading in Japanese communities via unknown infection routes. A level 1 advisory asked US citizens to exercise “normal precautions” in Japan.

The travel advisory remained at level 4 for China, urging citizens not to travel to the country.
