UKCS welcomes push for a Brexit deal

The UK Chamber of Shipping gave a positive reaction to the news that EU and UK negotiators had agreed a new Brexit deal.

The agreement was announced last Thursday, but was thrown once again into doubt on Saturday when the UK Government declined to put a meaningful vote to the House of Commons after an amendment altered the nature of the vote.

The UK Chamber of Shipping said late last week that “we broadly welcome the agreement reached by the European Union and UK Government. This deal provides the basis for a negotiated settlement with a transition period, something we have long called for. We recognize that much still needs to be agreed though as part of any future trade deal. We will continue to work closely with the UK Government, and the EU, to ensure our world class shipping industry can continue to trade freely with our European partners.”
