Two bodies recovered from Fardin-1; three still missing

Divers from the Bangladeshi Coast Guard recovered two bodies from the engine room of the Fardin-1 on November 17th but three more were still missing.

After the vessel’s collision with the Handy Perth (IMO 9628128) on November 15th in Mongla Port, Bangladesh (IMN November 17th), the Fardin-1 was badly damaged, making it impossible for divers were unable to search the other parts of the vessel. It was therefore uncertain whether the bodies of the other three missing people were still inside the vessel or had been swept away by the currents. The salvage operation started during the morning of November 18th.

The Handy Perth left Mongla and was underway to Dhamra with an ETA of November 18th.

A three-member probe body has been formed to investigate incident, the third since February.

2013-built, Panama-flagged 23,495 gt Handy Perth is owned and managed by Nation SA of Athens, Greece. It is entered with UK Club on behalf of Nation SA.
