Turkey Energy Minister Fatih Donmez said on Tuesday July 16th that the country would be sending a fourth ship to the Eastern Mediterranean near Cyprus to conduct seismic research for oil and gas around Cyprus.
Turkey currently has three ships around Cyprus, two of them drilling ships. Donmez said on Twitter that 2017-built 4,789 gt seismic research vessel Oruc Reis (IMO 9675470) would be sent to the Mediterranean after completing its current activities in the Marmara Sea.
Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Sunday July 14th that the country would continue to drill for gas in waters off Cyprus if the internationally recognized Greek Cypriot government did not accept a cooperation proposal put forward by Turkish Cypriots. Cavusoglu said that a proposal by Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci that both parties on the divided island cooperate in exploration and exploitation of gas could contribute to stability and peace in the area
