Turkey blocks docking from ships visiting from “contaminated” countries

The Turkish General Directorate of Health for Borders and Coasts has ruled that vessels will not be able to call Turkey for 14 days following a call from a “contaminated country” –regardless of the city / port, reports correspondent Correspondent Metropole Maritime and Trading Ltd Co.

Before docking at a Turkish port such vessels will be kept at anchorage and there will be no contact with the vessel until a 14-day quarantine period is completed, according to statements by local agents. Following that, sanitary officers will board the vessel in the first instance for a medical check of the crew members and the vessel’s operations at the designated port will be guided by the authorities’ decision following the medical check.

The quarantine period might be shorter or longer than 14 days, depending on the port, the correspondent said.
