Superyacht crashes into dock in Tunisia

The 86-metre yacht Kingdom 5-KR (IMO 1002213), belonging to Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, was reported to have suffered significant damage after it crashed last Friday October 11th into a dock at Bizerte Marina in Tunisia.

The vessel was attempting to dock when it appeared to have failed to stop in time and clipped the breakwater on the starboard quarter, according to a witness who spoke to The Yacht Report.

As a result of the crash both the bow of the yacht and the stone quay suffered significant damage.

Kingdom 5KR scraped along the dock after dropping its anchor, causing further damage to the keel and hull. The vessel then became wedged on the quayside.

The yacht was originally built for $100m in 1980 by Saudi Arabia’s Adnan Khashoggi, when it was named Nabila after his daughter. For a while it was owned by Donald Trump and was named the Trump Princess in 1988. He later sold the yacht to Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, who named it Kingdom 5-KR.

The yacht also appeared in the 1983 James Bond film Never Say Never Again, where it was used as the floating headquarters for the film’s major villain, played by Klaus Maria Brandauer.

1980-built, Saudi Arabia-flagged, 2,328 gt Kingdom 5-KR is owned by Kingdom Holding Co of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It is managed by Burgess Ltd of London, UK. It is entered with Shipowners’ Club on behalf of Kingdom Yachts Co. As of October 16th it was moored at Bizerte, Tunisia, having arrived from San Remo, Italy on October 11th.
