Steamship Mutual has advised its members that there had been reports of the potential for failure of GPS Satellite signals while vessels are operating in or close to Israeli territorial waters.
Members were advised that, prior to operating in or in the vicinity of Israeli territorial waters, they should review and implement appropriate mitigating measures to ensure safety of navigation should there be a failure or loss of GPS Satellite signal reception.
“The masters and watchkeepers should be thoroughly familiar with alternative means of plotting and monitoring their vessel’s position, keeping in mind the potential limitations of their vessel’s navigational equipment”, said Steamship.
The Club added that the Master should consult the local agent, CSO and/or DPA for the latest updates, reporting requirements and any specific navigational guidance that should be followed for the port(s) where the vessel is intended to call.
