State Farm granted drone flight waiver

The US Federal Aviation Administration has granted Illinois-based insurer State Farm a nationwide waiver to conduct drone flights to assess damages after a disaster or other loss events, the first such waiver the FAA has granted to a corporation.

The waiver, which runs until November 2022, will enable State Farm claims teams to fly drones over people and out of visual line of sight. Last year the FAA granted State Farm a temporary regional waiver to assess damages in four south-eastern states hit by hurricane Michael.
