The Sri Lankan government has suspended any crew change for foreign seafarers after 29 seafarers tested positive for Covid-19.
They were the part of a group who arrived in Sri Lanka on June 22nd via a charter flight from India. Of the 29, 23 were Indian nationals supposed to sign on, while six were Sri Lankans who had signed off from India.
The mariners who tested positive were taken to a special Covid-19 hospital.
All the crew had undergone a Covid test in India and checked as negative for the virus. They then flew in from Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has asked the firms involved to cancel any impending air movements, even if they had previously been approved.
