Singapore prepares to tackle shipping backlog from Suez Canal blockage

Ships which were held up while en route from Europe to Singapore because of the blockage of the Suez Canal from March 23rd to March 29th will soon begin to turn up in Singapore, several days late, but all at the same time.

More dockworkers have been recruited to handle the expected increase in traffic.

A reduced workforce has been operating at the port since Covid-19 hit in order to comply with pandemic-related regulations.

The port said that it was doing its best in terms of berth, machinery, equipment and manpower to work with the shipping lines to clear the backlog when they arrive in Singapore.
