Seven crew members of bulk carrier Vega Dream (IMO 9532094) have tested positive for COVID-19, operator Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has said.
The vessel, with 20 crew members, had arrived in Port Hedland, Western Australia, on October 3rd. It had implemented a crew change at the end of September.
MOL said that one infected crew member boarded the ship on August 13th and the six others boarded on September 24th, the latest crew change for the vessel.
One seafarer has been isolated at the Hedland Health Campus. The other six are asymptomatic and are isolated onboard. MOL said that the other 13 crew members had tested negative for Covid-19.
“All crew members have boarded in compliance with the Department of Transportation in the Philippines, Protocol for Crew Change and Repatriation, as well as being quarantined and tested negative in the Philippines prior to joining the vessel,” MOL said.
The bulker anchored off Port Hedland on October 9th and berthed the following day. It completed its cargo operation on October 11th.
Meanwhile on October 10th, Western Australia’s Department of Health declared the outbreak on manganese carrier Patricia Oldendorff (IMO 9464584) was over after 18 of the 21 crew members recovered from the virus.
Three crew members were not cleared to return to the vessel at the time and had their travel arrangements agreed with individual employers. The ship left the Australian port on Sunday October 11th and was currently underway towards Tanjung, Indonesia.
