The happiness level of seafarers is falling, according to a new study .The latest Seafarers Happiness Index (SHI) identifies the level as being 6.25 out of 10, compared with 6.45 and 6.41 respectively in 2015 and 2016.
The SHI initiative was relaunched in 2017 under Project Founder Steven Jones. The study aims to ascertain seafarers’ thoughts and opinions on issue such as shore leave, food, training, social interaction and family contact.
The Mission to Seafarers said that the downward trend raised important discussion issues as to what could be done to address the decline.
Henceforth the research data will be collected on a quarterly basis and the patterns and trends identified will be reported in the subsequent SHI publications.
