Savannah sees surge in containership congestion

The number of container ships waiting off the container port of Savannah, Georgia, has increased to 23, 11 more than the median number over the past five months, Bloomberg reported.

At 82%, Savannah’s congestion rate is currently highest in the US ahead of Seattle at 65% and Los Angeles at 54%. Georgia Ports Authority said that the container surge was expected to last through until 2022.

Savannah is generally the second or third stop on the US East Coast for container ships arriving from Asia and Europe, with many stopping at the Port of NY and NJ first.
