Saudi ship diverts to Spain from France, now en route to Genoa

RoRo containershipl Bahri-Yanbu (IMO 9626534),which was prevented by rights group ACAT from loading an arms cargo at the French port of Le Havre on Friday May 10th, arrived at the Spanish port of Santander early on May 13th, but without its consignment. It was carrying a separate consignment of arms loaded in Antwerp.

French rights group ACAT argued unsuccessfully before a French judge last week that the arms consignment contravened a UN treaty because the weapons might be used against civilians in Yemen. The vessel set sail for Santander shortly after the ruling, but without the weapons it had intended to pick up. As of May 13th it was underway from Santander to Genoa, ETA May 18th.

2014-built, Saudi Arabia-flagged, 50,714 gt Bahri Yanbu is owned by Bahri of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It is managed by Mideast Ship Management of Dubai, UAE. It is entered with West of England (Claims Team 1) on behalf of The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia.
