Sailors on way home after being freed from tanker Vemahope

Nine Georgian sailors were reported to be on their way home after an April 30th kidnapping by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea off Nigeria.

The Georgian Maritime Transport Agency, said that 10 sailors – nine Georgians and one other – were taken on April 30th from tanker Vemahope (IMO 9477751), which had been en route from Lome, Togo to Cameroon. Additional crew members, including four other Georgians, remained safely on the tanker (IMN May 6th 2020).

Arrangements were being made for a special flight to return the sailors to Georgia.

2009-built, Panama-flagged, 4,568 gt Vemahope is owned by Rachel Maritime SA care of manager Queensway Navigation Co Ltd of Athens, Greece. It is entered with Gard P&I Club on behalf of Rachel Maritime SA.
