The Mexican Navy Secretariat has reported finding a shipment of more than 200kg of methamphetamine hidden in the engine room of ​​the CMA CGM Dignity (IMO 9897779), that docked in the port of Manzanillo, Colima, on July 16th. The alleged drug had a total weight of 214.1 kilograms, enough for the manufacture of more than five million doses of crystal. The methamphetamine was hidden on the port side of the ship, where the cooling system of its main engine is located. The drugs were found in black suitcases that contained packages wrapped in cardboard and plastic giving them rectangular shapes.

South Korea imposed sanctions on a Hong Kong shipping company and cargo ship De Yi (IMO 8360676) on July 18th for alleged violations of UN Security Council resolutions. Seoul’s Foreign Ministry imposed sanctions on the Hong Kong-based HK Yilin Shipping Co, owner of De Yi and the North Korean cargo m/v Tok Song (IMO 8360406), which It said had engaged in an STS transfer of coal. South Korean authorities had seized the De Yi in the waters off Yeosu in March this year while it was heading to Vladivostok, carrying North Korean coal after a transshipment from the Tok Song in waters off the North’s western port city of Nampo. The UN Security Council has banned North Korea from exporting coal, iron ore and other mineral resources.

The 1st officer on bulk carrier Yasa H. Mehmet (IMO 9442500) fell ill while the ship was sailing off the coast of South Africa, en route from Tuticorin to Rio Grande. The patient was hoisted by helicopter on July 18th and taken to the AAKKM. The response was coordinated by the MSRCC Ankara and MRCC Cape Town.
