A global pandemic is not sufficient to discourage phishing attacks. In its late February report Dryad Global and Red Sky Alliance identified a series of new phishing attacks that contain motor vessel (MV) and motor tanker (MT) in the subject line.
The report said that “Email subject line MV or MT keyword usage is a common lure to entice users in the maritime industry to open emails containing malicious attachments”.
Dryad Global’s report revealed attempts to use vessel names to try to fool companies.
The malware is often Tiggre!rfn and Wacatac. Tiggre!rfn is Trojan malware for Microsoft Windows that employs processing time and electricity to mine cryptocurrency. Wacatac is a version of RedRum ransomware that is distributed through email spam. Various organizations
