North of England Club has reminded members that a ban is place in Senegal on the import of plastic waste, with the authorities taking tough action on infringements.
The import ban entered into force in August 2020. Correspondent McLeans-WAMS has issued a reminder of the firm stance that is being adopted by the Senegalese customs authorities.
Violations of the ban can lead to the vessel facing large fines and an order to return the prohibited cargo to its country of origin, the correspondent warned.
McLeans-WAMS further advised that the financial penalties could exceed those stated in the Act.
