Premium income in marine declines at Sompo Canopius

Sompo Canopius has reported direct premiums of ¥45.1bn in marine insurance for the six months to September 30th, compared with ¥49.2bn in the same period last year – a decline of 8.3%. Net claims paid fell 11.9% year on year to ¥19.7bn from ¥22.4bn. Headline profit in marine therefore fell to ¥25.4bn, from ¥26.8bn in the corresponding period last year.

Direct premiums overall declined 2.1% year on year for the period in question to ¥1.42trn, from ¥1.45trn. Net claims paid fell to ¥691.3bn, form ¥710.0bn.

Net written premiums in marine insurance fell by 13.4% year on year, to ¥42.1bn, form ¥48.6bn.
