Port infrastructure boss sacked, ferry captain suspended in Oran allision

Investigators have born down hard on those they consider responsible for an allision between passenger/cargo RoRo Tassili II (IMO 9265419) and Han Xin (IMO 9186754), in Oran, Algeria on September 1st.

The chief executive of port infrastructure has been dismissed by a commission of inquiry, while the ferry captain and two of his staff were suspended on September 7th. The decision was taken by the commission of inquiry.

The ferry suffered a hull breach of four metres length and six centimetres width at starboard side when it struck the other ship, which had entered port on August 30th. On board were 1,287 passengers and 305 vehicles.

2004-built, Algeria-flagged, 20,024 gt Tassili II is owned and managed by ENTMV of Alger, Algeria. It is entered with West of England Club (Claims Team 1) on behalf of Enterprise Nationale De Transport Maritime De Voyageurs (ENTMV).

1999-built, Panama-flagged, 13,066 gt Han Xin is owned by Hanson Shipping Co Ltd care of manager Kind Faith Shipping Co Ltd of Fuzhou, Fujian, China. It is entered with London Club on behalf of Hanson Shipping Co Ltd.
