Port congestion likely at Chittagong

Chittagong Port is likely to face container congestion during Eid due to the likely slow delivery of containers cargo and greater than normal unloading levels, claimed the Financial Express. Chittagong Port Authority said that the port was unlikely to face congestion of containers, with storage capacity of the port recently increased to 45,000 TEUs. The capacity on record is far less at just over 36,000 TEUs. Port users said the average delivery of containers per day was 3,000 to 4,000 TEUs, but that over the last few weeks the rate of delivery has decreased to around 2,500 TEUs. Imports of container-based cargo had risen at the beginning of May ahead of the national fiscal budget and Eid, leading to excessive storage of containers in the port yards, the newspaper claimed.
