Piracy attack on bulk carrier Columbia River

Bulk carrier Columbia River was attacked by pirates at Lagos outer anchorage, Nigeria. over the weekend. The vessel was approached by a skiff containing several armed men, who boarded the carrier and took control. The crew sent a distress signal and locked themselves in the citadel.

Local authorities and the Nigerian navy sent patrol boats and forces, and shots were exchanged with the pirates. Currently the pirates are locked on board the ship. The bulk carrier Columbia River is operating under the flag of Hong Kong and managed by Pacific Basin Shipping. According to P&I databases Columbia River is covered with London P&I via Member Columbia River Shipping Ltd.
