One crew member dies in Sea of Azov incident

One crew member was reported to have died after a fire aboard a vessel conditionally identified as general cargo ship Akua (IMO 8826369).

The fire, which erupted on the bridge, had been extinguished. The 13 crew include Turkish, Indian and Azerbaijan nationals.

AIS is currently off, quite possibly destroyed or damaged during the fire on the bridge.

Russian media reported that a fire broke out in the superstructure of one of cargo ships anchored off Temryuk Port, Russia, Azov sea, during the morning of May 10th. The ship was said to be Turkish and not to require assistance, The Akua left Temryuk port on May 8th and anchored on Temryuk anchorage, bound for Karasu, Turkey. As of May 9th the vessel was at Temyruk anchorage, Russia, in the Sea of Azov.

1989-built, Vanuatu-flagged, 2,980 gt Akua is owned by Aquas Ltd care of manager lkarbon Enerji Madencilik ve Ticaret AS  of Istanbul, Turkey. It is entered with Hydor AS.
