Oil spill in Kingston harbour

Swedish Club correspondent in Jamaica Errol Williams, managing director of The Maritime Consultancy Ltd and Shipowners’ P&I Services Ltd has informed the club of an oil spill in Kingston Harbour, Jamaica. Masters are advised to take all necessary precautions to prevent their hull from being coated.

Jamaica’s National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) has said that it was happy with the clean-up efforts undertaken by Petrojam thus far. In a statement on July 25th, NEPA said that most of the oil has been removed from the sea and shoreline and Petrojam has promised that the clean-up would be completed by Friday July 28th. Last Wednesday July 19th, NEPA, after receiving reports that an oil spill occurred in the Kingston Harbour, assessed the situation and collaborated with the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard (JDFCG) and other entities to carry out the clean-up process.
