Oil boom laid out around Philippines grounding

An oil boom was laid out around landing craft/cargo ship LCT Cebu Great Ocean on April 21st by the Philippine Coast Guard and the Malimono Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Surigao del Norte also used a drone to search for still-missing crew members.

The owners of the vessel have dispatched a private plane to conduct an aerial survey in the nearby waters.

Eight crew members from the vessel have been rescued alive and three bodies have been recovered, but nine more remained missing.

The surviving crew members stated that they dropped anchor, but the chain snapped, and they abandoned the vessel due to strong waves, using life jackets to float.
