Norovirus outbreak causes evacuation of cruise ship

Princess Cruises ship Sun Princess (IMO 9000259), with 2,000 passengers on board, was evacuated after a norovirus outbreak. The cruise ship had left Perth, Western Australia, on November 1st for a 12-night trip.

According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, 229 passengers on board the ship had symptoms of the virus. Everyone was evacuated on the final day of the trip in Singapore.

Carnival Cruises, which owns Princess Cruises, said that the ship and the terminal were cleaned following the outbreak.

1995-built, Bermuda-flagged, 77,441 gt Sun Princess is owned by Corot Shipping Corp care of manager Princess Cruise Lines Ltd of Valencia, California, USA. It is entered with Steamship Mutual and UK Club.
