Nigerian navy stops hijack attempt

Units of the Nigerian navy have foiled an attempted hijack of general cargo vessel UAL Houston (IMO 9542348) near Port Harcourt. Nigerian Navy spokesman Captain Suleman Dahun told Xinhua news agency on Friday that the incident occurred on Thursday July 13th. He said six suspected sea robbers had boarded the vessel but that they were unable to access the ship’ s living quarters, bridge or machinery room as the ship was on lock down. “On sighting the naval patrol boat, the robbers abandoned their hijack plot and fled,” Captain Dahun said, adding that according to preliminary investigations no crew were kidnapped and no property was stolen.

2012-built, Netherlands-flagged 5,925 gt UAL Houston is owned care of Nescos BV of Hoogezand, Netherlands, and managed by Nescos BV of the same address. It is entered with North P&I Club on behalf of Noord Nederlandsche P&I Club.
