Nigeria suffered 41 piracy attacks in 2017

Nigeria recorded 41 piracy attacks on vessels during 2017, according to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

In its Nigeria’s Maritime Industry Forecast 2018-2019 the agency said Nigeria 135 piracy attacks between 2015 and 2017. The greatest number of attacks occurred during Q4 2017, during which there were 16 attacks within Nigerian waters (six of them successful). This compares with nine attacks in Q1 (three successful), eight attacks in Q2 (four successful), and eight attacks in Q3 (four successful). There were 77 attacks during 2016, 40 of which were successful.
