Massive bail required in Murmansk after Norwegian fishing vessel detained

Murmansk authorities have demanded NOK90m ($10.8m) bail for the release of fishing vessel “Remøy” (IMO 9660451), which has now been held in Murmansk for more than a week on what at first sight appeared to be trivial documentation charges.

On May 19th there was a meeting between the Norwegian Fisheries Directorate, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the shipping company and the fishing fleet’s organization, Fiskebåt. The bail being asked is 10 times the value of the vessel’s catch and way more than the shipping company could be expected to be able to pay. According to database, Remøy is covered by Gard P&I on behalf of Remøy Havfiske A/S.
