Mass food poisoning reported on cargo ship in Indian Ocean

An outbreak of food poisoning was reported among the crew on cargo ship Lanna Naree (IMO 9496939) on February 5th in the Indian Ocean south-southeast of the Maldives, while the vessel was en route from Laem Chabang to Puerto Rico.

The vessel appeared to have changed course and sailed to Male in the Maldives. It arrived at Male on February 9th with 18 crew suffering from the outbreak. All of the sick seafarers were later transferred to Thailand and replacement crew members were provided by February 10th. However, the various reports were somewhat confused. The Lanna Naree left Male on February 11th and resumed its voyage to San Juan in Puerto Rico with an ETA of March 19th.
