Markel has promoted Brook Styles to the position of head of cargo, with Richard Burnett moving to the strategic role of head of cargo underwriting.
Markel said Styles would work to identify areas for further growth across the cargo portfolio and drive the company’s broker relationship.
Elsewhere, Brendan McCarthy has resigned from CNA Hardy, where he was underwriting manager for London Cargo, to join the growing London marine team at Everest, reports Insurance Insider. McCarthy had been at CNA Hardy for more than five years, having previously spent periods at Barbican Insurance group and Zurich. He also spent 13 years at Aviva.
The move reunites McCarthy with former CNA Hardy colleague Alastair Marriott, who joined Everest in late 2022 to head up the cargo operation.
The marine build in London is part of the carrier’s primary insurance expansion strategy.
