A serious maritime warning remained in place for Sydney’s coastline after 83 containers fell off containership YM Efficiency (IMO 9353280) during heavy seas about 20 km off Sydney Heads.
The scattered containers and the cargo they contain now pose a danger to other marine craft along the coast; any vessels in the area have been urged to keep a sharp lookout for the containers and to report sightings to a marine rescue base.
Efforts have been launched to locate debris as it washes up along the coast. Two containers were spotted about 100 metres off Fingal Head and Boondelbah Island, near Port Stephens, while sections of another container were found on rocks at Yacaaba Headland.
