The crew of the VLCC Senegal Prosperity (IMO 9532757) were evacuated leaving the tanker abandoned and listing in the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel was struck three times by what were described in security reports as “rockets” while transiting the Strait of Hormuz (IMN September 2nd). The tanker was struck on its port side, engine room, and ballast tank. The Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) said that the Senegal Prosperity was southbound exiting the Strait to the Gulf of Oman and was 4nm from the Oman coast at the time of the incident on August 30th. JMIC said the Company Security Officer (CSO) reported that all communications were lost with the vessel following the attack, that it was dead in the water and listing to port. The VLCC dropped anchor. The crew of the vessels were evacuated by the local authorities, leaving it abandoned in the Strait of Hormuz off the Omani coast. There no casualties among the crew.

Oil products tanker SMF Ixora (IMO: 9414101) was reported to have collided with Malaysia’s Sungai Johor Bridge on September 2nd. The bridge suffered only minimal damage and remained open to traffic. The vessel had just left Benzmark Marine Shipyard at the time. A tugboat had been assigned to escort and control the tanker, but strong currents and winds pushed the vessel towards the bridge. The escorting tug reportedly lacked sufficient power to redirect or stop it. The tanker struck the bridge structure at around 14:30 local time. Two additional tugs arrived on scene to remove the vessel, which was then anchored. Following an inspection, the bridge was declared safe for use.
2007-built, Malaysia-flagged, 3,991 gt SMF Ixora is owned by SMF Ixora Ltd care of Tumpuan Megah Development of Johor, Malaysia. ISM manager is Straits Marine Services Pte of Singapore. As of September 3rd the 99.9m x 16.3m vessel was at anchor off Singapore.
Landing craft vessel Irini K (IMO 8747628) sank in the Aegean Sea around 1nm off Sifnos while it was being towed for shipyard work. The Irini K was being towed from Kalymnos to Perama in Greece when it was reported to have begun taking on water in the engine room. The water inflow could not be controlled, leading to the vessel sinking. There were two people aboard the vessel, and both managed to evacuate in time. They were picked up by the tugboat and were said to be unhurt. The shipowner reported that the vessel was not carrying any fuel or lubricants, reducing the risk of pollution. A coast guard vessel was dispatched to monitor the area and manage any environmental risk.
