Marine accident round-up : 9th January 2019

Salvage services were rendered to cargo ship Flourisheaver (IMO 9081112) by Guangzhou Salvage under Lloyd’s Open Form 2011 after she grounded off Nan’au Island in the Guangdong province on February 27th, 2018. SCOPIC was invoked. The ship arrived at Mina Sulman, Bahrain on March 14th 2018  where she remained as of January 5th. 1995-built, Panama-flagged, 39,027 gt Flourishever is owned by Xintai International Shipping of Hong Kong, China. It is managed by Hai Ling Shipping HK of Hong Kong, China. It is entered with West of England Club (Claims Contact Hong Kong) on behalf of Xintai International Shipping Co Ltd.

Great Lakes-only bulk carrier CSL St Laurent (IMO 9665281) sustained damage when she was struck by a shore crane boom that broke in half and collapsed during a discharging of cargo during the afternoon of December 26th 2018 in the port of Montreal. 2014-built, Canada-flagged, 22,597 gt CSL St Laurent is owned and managed by CSL Group Inc of Montreal, Canada. It is entered with Standard Club (International Division) on behalf of CSL Group.

A fire broke out aboard cargo ship Mark (IMO 7721952) during the morning of January 4th while she was moored at Pendik, Istanbul. The superstructure was engulfed. All 15 crew members, consisting of 10 Syrians, three Indians and two Egyptians, were evacuated by a police boat dispatched to the scene. The fire was reported as extinguished the same day. The cargo ship, which arrived from Beirut, anchored off the shore in Pendik on January 2nd. 1981-built, Togo-flagged, 2,383 gt Mark is owned and managed by Nord Marine SA of Monrovia, Liberia.

Cargo ship AP Sveti Vlaho (IMO 9331696) ran aground on January 2nd in the Punta Indio Canal, Rio de La Plata, south of Montevideo, Uruguay, after veering off the fairway due to a mechanical failure. The loaded ship was refloated and anchored near the grounding site the same day. She was en route from San Lorenzo to Ravenna at the time. 2009-built, Marshall Islands-flagged, 32,578 gt AP Sveti Vlaho is owned by APS Shipping LLC care of manager Atlantska Plovidba dd of Dubrovnik, Croatia. ISM manager is Union Marine Mgmt Serv Pte Ltd of Singapore. It is entered with North of England Club on behalf of APS Shipping LLC.

Cargo ship Atlantic Peach (IMO 9508299) ran aground at the breakwater of the Tripoli sea port, Libya, on January 3rd. The vessel was carrying 150 containers en route to Khoms, Libya, with 14 crew members on board. Due to bad weather conditions all crew members were safely evacuated at request of the captain and taken in the custody of the Tripoli port authority. 2009-built, Liberia-flagged, 9,961 gt Atlantic Peach is owned by Twenty Four Silver SA care of manager Sinikor Maritime Ltd of Seoul, South Korea. ISM manager is V Ships Ship Management India. It is entered with Japan Club (Tokyo Office in charge) on behalf of Twenty Four Silver SA.

General cargo ship Mumammet Gumustas 5 (IMO 8516287) dragged anchor in bad weather conditions on January 4th and drifted towards anchored cargo ship Verlaine (IMO 8841694) while she was moored at Sinop Anchorage in the Black Sea. Verlaine was hit on the port side. Both ships sustained hull damages above the waterline and remained anchored for surveys and investigations.
